The cover image and some details of the new David Sedaris book were recently announced. Once again it is a collection of personal essays, written with his unique wit and eye for the absurd detail.
The title Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls might suggest that readers are in for another collection of animal fables, in the same vein as his previous book Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk. But in fact, the new book is more a collection of travel essays, and Mr. Sedaris’ readers know that he is very adroit at documenting the peculiarities of other countries and cultures. In Lets Explore he negotiates the perils of French dentistry, the squat-style toilets of Beijing, and even the terrors of a North Carolina Costco! Australian fans will be delighted to lean that one essay has an Australian focus − the eating habits of the Australian kookaburra!
Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls is to be published in Australia on 30 April 2013 in a trade paperback ($29.99). The American edition is out one week earlier in hardcover.
